2015 APA Convention - Toronto Symposium to be submitted through Division 52 Collaborative Proposal among Divisions 52, 48, and SIP - Early Career Psychologists Title: “Using Media and Technology for the Benefits of Collaboration among Divisions and Associations” Chairs: Mercedes McCormick Ph.D., DIV. 52 Past-President and ……………………… Presenters: Suzana Adams PsyD Div52 Member-at-Large and Div52 ECP Chair (Also member of Div42, 45, 48, and 56); Kyle Rundle PsyD Div52 Technology Use Task Force Chair (Also member of Div48); and Hector Torres PsyD SIP International Liaison. Brief Overview: Technology is an amazing and ever-developing tool that allows people to connect and share information in unique ways. This symposium will describe how using media and technology can improve collaboration among APA Divisions and other Psychological Associations. Efficient use of these tools aim at creating, improving, and maintaining inter-professional networking. They also facilitate mentoring, disseminating of information, recruitment and retention of members. Furthermore, technology may encourage collaborative working relationships among members from different part of the word, as well as across APA divisions and other associations. Division 52 Task Force for Technology Use identified the technology that was being in use in several divisions and suggested more effective ways of its use. An example of a successful program “Fast-Connect” and its extension “Fast-Connect Across Borders” will be presented. As of October 2014, 21 Fast-Connects trio connections have been facilitated and produced by the Division 52 Fast-Connect Subcommittee lead by Dr. Adams. The program matches together a trio consisting of an early career psychologist, an experienced senior psychologist, and a student of psychology. The outcome is a brief, to-the-point, rapidly completed, written “three-way” interview engaging each participant and highlighting the other participants’ skills and expertise, with a glimpse of the person behind the professional and/or academic accomplishments or aspirations. The results can be very rewarding, as these brief introductions can develop into mentorships, career-building networking, and opportunities for collaboration. In October 2014 Div52 ECP Committee launched a new project called "Fast-Connect Across Borders" designed to bridge Div52 with other divisions and associations. Vertical emails including members of both associations APA Div52 and Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP) were sent through the listservs of Div52 (800+members) and SIP (300+members). Presentation Objectives: 1. Provide a brief presentation of tools of technology that may improve social connectivity, management, and collaboration among divisions and associations. 2. Present a successful program that was able to create, improve, and maintain inter-professional networking, mentoring, and collaborative working relationships across the world. 3.
