AVALIAÇÃO E INTERVENÇÃO PARA A MELHORIA DAS CONDIÇÕES DE TRABALHO NA ASSOCIAÇÃO DE CATADORES DE MATERIAL RECICLÁVEL ILHA

The final destination of garbage after its disposal is not common knowledge.Its collection in bins provides a false sense of disappearance, no longer responsibilityof those who produced it. In that sense, the role of informal workers in charge forselective collection, being a significant step for recycling, is undervalued by societyand often also by public agencies.This present research exposes this reality, specifically for a group of workersat a place named “Associação de Catadores de Material Reciclável Ilha”, describingthe routine of workers responsible for the separation of recyclable material. A surveyof the types of occupational hazards that workers are exposed was done during thisresearch, both in quantitatively and qualitatively ways, in order to assess the workingconditions at the place where they provide their services.The methodology used was based on the use of measuring instruments,interviews with workers and the develop of a risk map, as well a visit to anassociation of separation of recyclable material in proper working condition. This laststep aimed to meet a model, and then draw up proposals for improvements at the“Associação Ilha”.From the analysis of the work environment based on principles ofoccupational health and safety, preventive actions to avoid occupational risks wereoutlined. The definition of appropriate protective equipment and the conduction of atraining with the workers of the “Associação Ilha”, about existing occupationalhazards on site and the proper use of protective equipment, were delivered.
