DOI: 10.1002/chin.201106015 Room-Temperature Synthesis of the Highly Polar Cluster Compound Sn[SnCl][W3Cl13]. — Dark brown block-shaped crystals of the title compound are prepared by reaction of stoichiometric amounts of Sn and WCl6 in the ionic liquid [bmim]Cl/AlCl3 (20 °C, 12 h; 43% yield). Sn[SnCl][W3Cl 13] crystallizes in the polar hexagonal space group P63 with Z = 2. The structure can be subdivided into a [W3Cl13 ]3cluster, a Sn2+ , and a [SnCl]+ cation. The trinuclear [W3Cl13 ]3- cluster anions are encircled by Sn2+ cations, which link them into a two-dimensional network. — (AHMED, E.; GROH, M.; RUCK*, M.; Eur. J. Inorg.
