Silica-Free Mullite Structures in the Al2 O3 –B2 O3 –P2 O5 Ternary System. — Stability and homogeneity range of mullite structures in the title system are studied in the range 900–1000 ◦ C. Silica-free mullite structures Al8+x P1−x B1+x O16+x/2 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) are prepared from Al(NO3 )3 ·9H2 O, H3 BO3 , and NH4 H2 PO4 using glycerol as reducing agent. The resulting xerogels are heated at 850–1000 ◦ C for 1 h in air. The samples are characterized by neutron diffraction and XRD. T* sites are occupied by Al atoms while P and Si are located on T sites.
