CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

What is all about? • An analytical tool that can organize your ideas either graphically or in a narrative form through identifying the key concepts related to your thesis, and the relationship between them (Miles & Huberman, 1994: 18). • A graphical representation of the interrelation between your theoretical framework (literature), the research questions, and sometimes your methodology & anticipated results (Fotis, 2014) Miles, M.B. & Huberman, M.A. (1994). Qualitative Data Analysis: An Expanded Sourcebook, 2nd Edition, Beverley Hills, Sage Publications.

How to develop your conceptual framework? • Search and identify the KEY WORDS within your area of study • Find out the KEY THINGS already written within the subject area (literature review – identify your research field’s GURUS) • Formulate an initial TREORETICAL FRAMEWORK (what to write about in your thesis) and develop your RESEARCH QUESTIONS Simultaneously maybe??

• Bring them all together and present them in an i l l u s t r a t i v e w a y (CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK)

Types of Conceptual Frameworks

Process Frameworks • Set out the stages for an action (from its initiation to its conclusions) Content Frameworks • Set out the key concepts and variables, and illustrates their relationship A combination of both MAYBE??

My Research Thesis Title: “Strategic Human Resource Development (SHRD) in the Recession: The Maturity and Resilience of HRD Practices in Greek Banks.” Key words: • Human Resource Development (HRD) • Strategic HRD, HRD Maturity, HRD Resilience (NEW!!) • Economic crisis, recession, HR in the recession • Greek HRD • Greek Banking Organisations Research Questions: • How is SHRD understood, applied, and operationalized within organizations from the respective perception of different HRD stakeholders? • How strategically integrated (mature) and resilient have HRD implementations been within the case organizations in regard to the constantly changing business and economic contexts? • Which factors have been crucial in shaping, facilitating or constraining the adoption of SHRD and contributed to its strategicness and resilience in some organizations within the context of the economic crisis?
