CityTarget Chicago 1 S. state St. Located in the historic Sullivan Center in Chicago's Loop Neighborhood, this CityTarget store kicked off the big-box retailer's foray into smaller urban formats. The 124,000-sq.-ft. store spans two floors and offers an edited selection of traditional Target wares, groceries and Chicago-themed merchandise. A Prêt A Manger eatery rounds out the first floor.

Walgreens 1601 N. Milwaukee Ave. Waigreens has raised the bar on the corner drugstore with its second Chicago flagship, nestled in the Bucktown/ Wicker Park neighborhood. Occupying the Noel State Bank building, which dates back to 1919, the renovated space boasts an ornate, coffered plaster ceiling and a large stained-glass skylight. Besides the typical Waigreens offerings, patrons can dine on fresh sushi and juices, primp at the Eyebrow Bar or peruse the Vitamin Vault (formerly a real bank vault!).

The store is organized into specific "lifestyle boutiques" to coordinate with its customers' diverse interests, and features an "experience platform" to showcase up-and-coming wireless technology.
