Economic Systems The Impact of the World Bank on Developing and Emerging Economies Organizers: Ayse Y. Evrensel (Portland State University, USA) Ali M. Kutan (Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, USA) Aim and scope: As far as the impact of multilateral institutions on developing and emerging markets is concerned, the majority of academic research focuses mainly on the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The purpose of this special issue is to fill the gap in the literature by shifting the focus on the World Bank. The special issue will include theoretical and empirical papers that investigate the impact of the World Bank’s activities on the economies of developing and emerging markets. Topics include the short- and long-term impact of the World Bank’s lending on • • • • • • • • •

Economic growth Liberalization Privatization and enterprise reform Competitiveness Macroeconomic policies Poverty reduction Private and other official capital flows Technology transfer Other relevant issues

We also welcome papers that compare the impact of the World Bank’s activities to those of the IMF. Submission details: Complete papers should be submitted by e-mail to Ali M. Kutan, American Editor, Economic Systems, [email protected], in either .pdf or .doc format, by March 1, 2005. Papers will be subject to the regular refereeing process.
