ABSTRACT Focusing on the historical forms activism in the nineteenth-century Russia, this article provides a critical genealogy of vernacular discourses surrounding anti-tsarist female and male activists’ hunger strikes and a group suicide of 1889 in Siberian prison camp, Kara.
