The quest for energy security has been, to the US, one of the pillars of its foreign policy since the first Oil Shock in 1973. Since then, what is observed is the gradual development of a wide US strategy to control the reserves and the fate of the world’s hydrocarbons, as evidenced by a greater engagement – whether political, economical or military – in regions rich in energy resources. Such interest become more evident on the George W. Bush government (2001-2009), due to the large focus on the energy questions, both internally or externally – either for the formulation of the National Energy Policy(NEP) or the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Therefore, this essay proposes analyses if the United States had, in fact, a strategy focused on the control of the energy resources around the world, during the George W. Bush government. To do so, this essay addresses the behavior of the US foreign policy, with emphasis on the matters referring to the geopolitics of the energy, for a – globally – dominance of the energy resources. As result we could observe that Bush’s energety strategy was very broad and was inherently connected to others goals from the US foreign policy, such as the hegemony from the US and it’s military’s development – which was some of the main goals from the Bush administration. Therefore the essay could conclude that during the Bush administration was implemented the consensus that would be necessary to take drastic changes on the US external policies, which could be seen on an extremely aggressive posture for apprehension of the world’s reserves of Hydrocarbons.
