A música de Villa-Lobos nos filmes de Glauber Rocha dos anos 60: alegoria da pátria e retalho de colcha tropicalista

We analyze the utilization of preexisting musicby Villa-Lobos in two !lms from the sixties by GlauberRocha, Black God, White Devil (1964) and EntrancedEarth (1967). Considered by Guerrini Júnior (2009) asan “allegory” of Brazilian nation in great part of BrazilianCinema Novo, the music by Villa-Lobos is heard all overBlack God, White Devil. However, the musical piece in theend of the !lm points to a change to a more anthopophagicand tropicalistic in Entranced Earth, in which Villa-Lobos´music is part of a patchwork of many styles and genres.We consider the meanings that the preexisting Villa-Lobos´ excerpts bring to the two !lms, in addition to therelationships with national and popular elements as wellwith other sound components.
