ABSTRACT. Anotherspecies in Microlicia(Melastomataceae)is describedand illustrated.Microlicia obtusifoliais knownfromthe rockyslopes of Diamantina,MinasGerais,Brazil.Microliciaobtusifolia Cogniauxex R. Romerois distinguishedfrom affinedspecies (M.pusillaCogniaux)by its obovate, 1- to 3-nervedleaveswithobtuseapicesandattenuate bases. Keywords: Brazil,"camporupestre,"endemic, highlandvegetation,Melastomataceae, Microlicia, MinasGerais.

S7 x 24 mm,obovate,apex obtuse,base attenuate and slightlyconstricted,marginentireor inconspicuouslycrenulate,hyaline,coveredwithsessile glandson bothsurfaces,glutinousor not, 1- to 3-nerved,withinconspicuouslateralveins.Flowers 5-merous,sessile or almostsessile, solitary,terminal or groupedin the branchapex. Hypanthium 2.0-2.5 x ca. 2.5 mm, campanulate,with stalked and sessile glands,on the apexwithdense stalked glands, eventuallywith caducous glands. Calyx lobes 3.5-5.5 mm long, lanceolate, apex acute, apiculateor not, coveredwith stalkedglands.PetThe Neotropicalgenus MicroliciaD. Don con- als 8-9 x ca. 6 mm,magenta,obovate,apexasymsists of approximately 170 speciesoccurringmainly metricallyacute, brieflyacuminate,glabrous.Stathroughoutcentral and eastern Brazil (Wurdack, mens 10, dimorphic.Largerstamens5, filaments 1993) with ca. 100 endemicspecies in the states 3.54.0 mmlong,purple,thecae2.0-2.5 mmlong, of MinasGerais,Goias,and Bahia.Duringprepa- purple,oblong,not corrugate,with rostrumca. 0.5 rationof a treatmentof Microliciasect. Microliciaobtusifoliais endemic to the region aroundDiamantinat MinasGerais,Brazil,on rocky Microliciae pusillaemaximeaffinissed praecipuelam- slopes.
