ABSTRACT: Knowledge, attitude, demand (KAD) on sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of students in Thua Thien Hue province. Overview: Since 1990s, Vietnam has numerous activities and programs on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescents. Those activities, however, mostly focus on transferring information, education and communication (IEC). On the other hand, educating on SRHR is considered as a sensitive issue in Vietnam, the programming and teaching methods of SRHR through IEC are ethically theoretical. As the result, there are no much significant effects on SRHR awareness improvement toward students. Besides, those who are underserved groups such as the vulnerable group (the disabled, young girls, minority people…); lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), they find it extremely difficult and unequal to get accessibility to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. It is estimated that more than 50% women in doveloping countries do not get accessibility to family planning information and services. Women health would have dramatically been improved if they had much more rights to decide freely the number and spacing of their children [1]. Depending on types of disability, from 19 to 80.4% of people think that the disabled should not start a family [2]. Thus, conducting the research on knowledge, attitude and demand (KAD) about SRHR in students would attribute to look for long-term solutions aiming to the development of SRH education, to the accessibility to SRH information and consultant services in schools and communities. This would bring qualifying life to young generation and sustainability to social development. Research objectives: 1) Studying about 12-18 year-old students’ knowledge and attitude on SRHR; 2) Studying about 12-18 year-old students’ demands on SRHR; 3) Obtaining factors for current knowledge, attitude of the youth about SRHR. Materials and Methods: Using cross-sectional study, quantitative and qualitative analysis method on 3080 students in the age range of 12-18 in two high schools and two secondary schools in Thua Thien Hue province. Result: there are 54.85% of students have good knowledge; 75.65% of students have good attitude and 68.76% of students require their demands on SRHR. The knowledge of students about SRHR related to marital status and studying level of parents, students’ studying results. Moreover, the attitude of students towards SRHR also related to marital status and studying level of their parents. There is a difference of KAD between sex, studying level and address of students. Conclusion: SRHR is considered to be a basic human right for everyone and are fundamental to development conditions of any population [1]. The improvement in awareness and ability for the adolescents on SRHR plays an extremely important role in the purposes of getting accessibility to the sexual and reproductive comprehensive healthcare systems for the adolescents.
