“Alternative” music in Vila Madalena district: Youngster musical practices in the city // Música “alternativa” na Vila Madalena: práticas musicais juvenis na cidade

This paper presents a discussion about the relationship between midiatic music, urban spaces and youth cultures, emphasizing thereflections developed by the authors in their recent researches. In these, issues such as sociability/sociality, identities and youthmobility, musical practices, listening, urban soundscapes and territory show up closely. First, we discuss the triad: youths, city andsonority. Then, we discuss aspects of a joint research (in early stage) about the youngster musical circuits in São Paulo, comparingexperiences in the eastern/southern and west zone of the city. In this article, we focus in Vila Madalena (west zone district) and itssurroundings, highlighting the cultural life specificities, some sociability/sociality practices in this place and analyzing some elementsof “authorial/alternative” circuit (and its musical economy) in consolidation and expansion in this area of town.
