ABSTRACT - Universities are now viewed as economic catalyst and started to contribute to local and regional growth. As such, partnership between industry-academia can provide further opportunities for regional economic development in which both parties contributing its individual expertise and strengths to achieve a collective outcome. In the case of Malaysia, as a fast growing and open economy, we are faced with the challenge of a more competitive employability landscape and the increased need for better skills of graduates. In essence, the institutes of higher learning (IHLs) system has to be responsive to the growing demand for more employable graduates to continue propel the industries with innovations and creativity. As higher education remains as a cornerstone in Malaysia’s development, it has become imperative that IHL graduates become more employable within the growing economy. Although it is well-known that aspiring graduates want to be better qualified, the emerging industrial need is for higher learning outcomes that are closely calibrated with the challenges of a complex and vibrant economy. In view of this, the existing platform of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia’s signature program which is the Industry Centre of Excellence (ICoE) could act as a stepping-stone for all graduates to acquire and should be fostered and developed across the entire IHL experience. In short, ICoE provides a new framework for industry-academia to navigate and guide graduates’ cumulative progress and curricular alignment throughout their years in IHL. In this paper, the initiatives and activities spearheaded by ICoE Healthcare will be shared and presented. The best practices will be shared and could be reuse in order to enhance the sustainability of ICoE during the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020).
