introduction

About Us The Centre for Biomedical Research (CBMR) is dedicated to the investigation and treatment of disease. CBMR is composed of researchers from diverse research areas encompassing the Departments of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine, Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, Chemistry and Pharmacy, and Psychology and Education Sciences, in addition to a number of clinicians and medical researchers based within the Hospital of Algarve. We are located in spaces kindly provided by the Faculty of Science and Technology, who also contribute with logistical support.

Our Team The CBMR scientific research core is composed of 42 fully integrated members, all highly active, experienced scientists with outstanding track records, and extensive student and postdoctoral supervision. The CBMR will continue to develop and strengthen the Algarve Region in the Health Sciences field, by fostering a strong collaboration between scientists, engineers, and medical teams, reinforcing the University/ Hospital relationship in the Algarve. In 2016 we created ABC - Algarve Biomedical Center – a consortium between Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine and the CBMR. The ABC aims to promote basic, translational and clinical research, as well as support the training of highly qualified medical professionals.

outreach activities

outreach activities

We promote a set of Outreach Activities: Open Days Every year, CBMR opens its doors during a whole day to 1st and 2nd cycle students from the Faro area. This initiative aims to foster the curiosity of younger generations of future scientists, as well as to promote the activities of CBMR.

European Researchers Night CBMR has participated regularly in the European Researchers Night, also with other research centers from the University of Algarve and the Ciência Viva Centers in Algarve (Faro, Lagos and Tavira).

Brain Awareness Week The Brain Awareness Week is an international initiative of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, sponsored in Portugal by Ciência Viva and the Portuguese Neuroscience Society. Researchers from CBMR participate in the Brain Awareness Week since 2012 with Open Laboratories activities dedicated mainly to schools of the Algarve region.

Science and Technology Week CBMR has participated regularly in the Science and Technology Week, promoted by Ciência Viva.

CBMR Distinguished Seminars and Cafés Ciência CBMR organizes a set of seminars with the participation of international guest speakers and promote, in partnership with CCMAR, a set of talks - Cafés Ciência - in FNAC.
