Why is Censorship a Diabolical Plan?
People are ignorant about censorship and informing the public about this nationwide abomination is a necessary plan. Censorship is horrible for restricting artists' in bands, album covers, and fiction books. They should be able to express their opinions; it is not like it is clearly stated in the first amendment in the Bill of Rights. Some people take advantage of the God given freedoms, which does not mean this nation has to restrict all of society's freedoms. In the past, censorship poisoned the minds of American artists' in song lyrics, album covers, and fictional books.
Censorship in bands was really clear; people living in America back when noticed it. An example of this censorship is from American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). A freshman at the University of Michigan was suspended for no reason. "He was wearing a black shirt with nothing on it except the band name Korn" (Nuzum). It is not an inappropriate band and there is nothing horrible about it, so why should he get kicked out of school? There is no reason he should get in trouble for wearing that, and that is only one part of this diabolical plan.
The second example is in album covers and the Beetle's "Yesterday and Today" (1966) album. "The U.S. recalled 750,000 copies of the album because; they were holding slabs of meat and decapitated baby dolls" ("Banned in the U.S.A.:20 of the Wildest Censored Albums"). This is gruesome, but that does not mean they have to recall almost a million copies for a couple of unique things. They were just trying to state their opinion and here comes censorship right on time to ruin beautiful art and music. After the capitol recalled all those albums they replaced it with a regular inoffensive picture of them in front of a truck.
The third part of this country's plan to control knowledge is to censor a great fictional book by one of the best authors. The book is called Of Mice and Men; it is a very innocent story that explains one of the worst times in U.S. history. "Parents in Idaho wanted to stop their high school kids from reading this book because there were a few profanities" (Lea). First of all, their kids are in a high grade and a high reading level and they have heard those words before because, they're in high school. Second of all, this book is a fictitious story and the author is trying to get a point across, also the students learn something when they read this book. So then why should they not be able to read it if they are learning a life lesson?
If a portion of this nation thinks censorship is important for this country, then they are misguided. Most of the people in this country think censorship is restricting artists and their opinions. Censorship ruins everything in this country, from band names to fictional books, so when people think it improves this country, they are clearly wrong. In just a couple of years, the government could control everything this nation watches or learns, and nobody wants to witness that. So take a minute, realize all of the freedoms everybody has have and really savor them because nobody ever knows what tomorrow brings.
