α-PNA: A Novel Peptide Nucleic Acid Analogue of DNA. — Four novel nucleotide base-containing α-amino acids like (V) and (XII) are prepared via treatment of the bromide (III) with the corresponding nucleotide base. Using solid phase techniques, they are coupled with glycine ethyl ester and the resulting dipeptides are dimerized yielding tetrapeptides like (IX) and (XV) (short oligo-α-PNAs). Additionally, a 20-mer is prepared with a high degree of integrity and purity using standard solid phase peptide synthesis protocols. — (HOWARTH, N. M.; WAKELIN, L. P. G.; J. Org.
