CHANGES IN HELMINTH ASSAMBLAGES OF WILD BIRDS UNDER RADIOAKTIVE POLLUTION ON ECOSYSTEMS

Trematoda communities parasitizing two populations of Gaflinula chloropus (Common Moorhen or Gaffinule) were analyzed. Sample were Composed by 35 birds from two deitaic environments Ltobregat Deita (24 animals caught in winter) and Ebro Delta (11 animals caught in spring and summer):toth in Catalonia, NE Spain. Four trematodes species, which aii present aquatics cydea, were found in 24 Common Moorhen. Of these. sinaie and douhfe infection were present in 87.5% and 12.5% rea~efy h uobregat Della while. in Ebro Delta single, double and triple infections were defected (75%, 12.5%, 12.5%, respectfvefy). Two specba were common in hosts from the two wetlands: Paremoflosfomum elveafum (Mehlis, 1846) La Rue, 1957 (NotocOtyWae) (86.75% Liobregat Defta and 25% Ebro Delta) paraeftfzing the caeca and Cydocoefum niuWi/e (31.25% and 100% ~e&tively~ paraaftizho the air sBc8. The great mobility of birds must be also considered to evaluate the community composition expoeed. in order to describe the structure of the parasite community, the populationdiversities were calculated by meana a auitabta software. It wae made using Brillouin’s index and two different approximations. if total aaxlmuiated diversity ia taken into fmxount, value from the Ebro Delta population (1.13) is slightly greater than that corresponding to the Uobregat Delta (0.80). NevetlWeas. if popuiationdiversityis estimated by the Jack-knife technique thfa difference is enhanced (1.61 and 0.67 reapectfveiy).Bome eapecta could be Importantto expiain the results. First. the aqua& ecoayatetis in Ebro Delta -We mcfe extensive and they are better conserved than their anaioooua in Liobreoat Deita. On the other hand, samples from two Moorh& popuiations”were obtked in t&o different seasons and this could be a determinant factor in the biological cycies of trematodes and the Moorhen populationcompositiin.

to trernatodes ( 5 ), nematodes ( 4 ). c&odes ( II ), acanthocephalans ( 1 ). Four species of helminths (AoonchoLsen~~ globata. Acuaria subda, Plagiorchis eIegans, Syngamus kv&) are

discovered in this region for the tint time. The greates changes in helminth assemblages of wild birds can be observed in the evicted village localities and on inundated meadows. The growth of relative abundanse as well as of specific diversity of hehninhs can positively stated. Structurally, the hehninth fauna is represented by stenoxenic and euryxenic species. The dominanting complex of parasitic worms is formed on major part by euryxenic. It is caused by redistribution of dominanting hosts and also by formation of new birds Hehninth asscmblagcs of wild bird in forest communities. ecosystems show stability which is characteristic of birds communities themselves. Thus it may by stated thereby that changes in hehninth assemblages of wild birds on contaminated areas of Belarus result mainly from ecological damage caused by Chernobyl accident.

From 8 snail species in Lake Biwa, I7 species of cercariae were detected. The rates of prevalence of cercariae were less than 5 % in most populations except the northern area of the lake. Cercariae with relatively high prevalence in the lake (e.g., Cercaria yoshidae, Metagonimus yokogawni) were very common species also in rivers. Some new types detected

Two

Dreissena’s

species

are presented in reservoirs of

Dnieper and its Estuary They are Drekwna polymorpha and D. bugensis. The habitat of both species usually was the same. The presence of two species of Dreissena together has created a great deal of interest to compare their parasites and commensals especially when it is difficult to separate Dpolymorpha and D. bugensis from one clump. There is a special interest to lock at feature of host specitity and the level of infection in the both cases. An analysis of original data and data from the literature shows that role of enumerate mussels as a source of parasites varies in different water-bodies from the four species in Kiev reservoir to six in the Estuary List of D. pOrymorphn parasites included 10 species while 6 species were recorded for the D. bugensis.

A detail investigation performed in the Kanev reservoir on Summer, 1997 show that the fauna of commensals and parasites of both species of Dreissena has not great difference The reliable difference was recorded for a level of infection of Conchophthirus sp and Echin~tomatidae larvae. Part of D. pobmorpha infected by Conchophthirus sp. make 50.63% while only 8.6% of D. bugensts were infected on the same time. As to Echinostomaidae cysts the level of infection of D. polymorpha was 2 1.49% while 27.3 1% of D. bugensis were infected by this trematoda oarasites.
