Questions as a guide to asses the abstract:
Did the author include a reference to the research study using a format consistent with the APA Publication Manual?
Did the author mention the problem addressed within the study?
Did the author state the central purpose of the study?
Is information about the sample, population, or subjects provided?
Are the key results summarized?
Is the journal article clearly a report of a research study (instead of an essay, opinion paper, typology, or synthesis of past research)?
Is the abstract no longer than a short paragraph (i.e., less than 1 double-spaced page)?
The word "Abstract" should be centered and typed in 12 point Times New Roman. Do not indent the first line of the abstract paragraph. All other paragraphs in the paper should be indented. The abstract is a brief summary of the paper, allowing readers to quickly review the main points and purpose of the paper. The abstract should be between 150-250 words. Abbreviations and acronyms used in the paper should be defined in the abstract (Publication manual of the American psychological association (5th ed.).
