THE EFFECTIVENESS WASTE OF BAGASSE (Sacharum officanarum, Linn) AS CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES

ABSTRACT

Solid waste generated from daily activities can induce health effects such as diarrhea, tyfus, and skin diseases. The bagasse could be converted as a charcoal briquettes and it has potential as a renewable energy resource. The purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of bagasse waste (Saccharum officarum, Linn) as charcoal briquettes based on the length of flame and density.
Quasi experiment method was used in this research. The population were waste of bagasse from ice cane seller. Normality data analize with Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Bivariate analysis use One Way Anova test.
Result show that there's significant difference between doses variation of bagasse waste (Saccharum officarum, Linn) with the length of flame (p=0,000). 30 and 45 gram of bagasse charcoal more effective than control. While there's also significant difference between doses variation of bagasse waste (Saccharum officarum, Linn) with density (p=0,000).
According to this research show that bagasse waste of charcoal briquettes (Saccharum officarum, Linn) can be use as alternative energy. Dose variations of bagasse charcoal have been effective because the resulting flame longer than briquettes market. However, the density of the bagasse charcoal briquettes still not effective due to the simple stamping so that the maximum density obtained yet. Researchers suggestions for further research is necessary to study the characteristics of bagasse charcoal briquettes (Sacharum officanarum, Linn).
