The mortality of mango aphid (Toxoptera aurantii) ranged from 54.33 to 100 %.Profenophos 50EC (0.1 %), dimethoate 30EC (0.06%), acephate 75 SP (0.075%), acetamaprid 20 SP (0.004%), monocrotophos 36 SL (0.054%) recorded 100% mortality while least mortality (54.33% ) was observed with dichlorovas 76EC (0.152%). Introduction Recently the mango aphid, Toxoptera aurantii, was observed during February and March, 2013 in certain farmer orchards and HCRI Farm of Ananthrajupeta. The infestation was severe on mango varieties especially on juicy varieties. Both nymphs and adult aphid caused significant damage by sucking the sap from leaves, buds and inflorescences, that lead to formation of sooty mould (Fig.2) affecting fruit formation.(Ferriera Rachel Gonclaves et al., 2002). Ferreira et al.,(2002) observed high infestation of Toxopteraaurantii mangotrees, which was responsible for the damage to young leaves, buds and inflorescences. Recently it occurred in orchards and HCRI Farm of Ananthrajupeta during February and March, 2013.Present investigation was initiated to understand the efficacy of insecticides against aphids. Materials and Methods The insecticides used were Profenofos 50EC (Curacron®' Syngenta), Dimethoate 30EC (Rogor®, Cheminova), Acephate 75SP (Pace®, Nagarjuna), Imidacloprid 17.8SL (Confidor®, Bayer), Dichlorvos 76EC (Nuvan®, Syngenta), Acetamiprid 20SP (Pride®, Dow), Thiamethoxam 25WG (Actara®, Syngenta),

Diafenthiuron 50WP (Pegasus®, Syngenta) and Monocrotophos 36SL (Monocrown®, Nagarjuna). Fresh mango inflorescence panicles were collected from HCRI farm early in the morning. Mango aphids, which were not exposed to any insecticide, were collected from infested mango trees. These aphids were inoculated to the panicles. Minimum 50 insects were maintained per replication. The insecticides were sprayed with hand held atomizer. Spraying of water served as control. The aphids were counted for mortality 48hr after treatment and moribund insects were considered as dead. Mortality data were compared with that in control by using the Abbott's formula (Abbott, 1925). Results and discussion Profenofos (0.1 %), dimethoate (0.06%), monocrotophos (0.054%, acetamiprid (0.004%), and acephate (0.075) caused 100% mortality within 48hr after treatment. The treatment with imidacloprid and thiamethoxam caused 74 and 87% mortality respectively. Diafenthiuron 50WP recorded 69%percent mortality while dichlorvos (0.152%) exhibited least (54.33%) mortality. The results are in conformity with those obtained by Sharma (2004).
