Enabling Healthcare Data Sharing Across NHS Genomics Laboratories: Big Data as a Service (BDaaS) Architecture

This report explores the inadequacy of current technological infrastructure supporting Genomic data sharing between NHS laboratories within the UK Genetic Testing Network (UKGTN) by examining existing infrastructure from a software architecture point of view. Three architectures were considered: (a) Database-centric, (b) Micro services and (c) Cloud computing (“as a Service”). Big Data as a Service (BDaaS) and its underpinning technology is recommended for adoption as a potential solution approach.
