Electricity has become vital for man, because the modern world is increasingly dependent on energy consumption. Maintaining the lifestyle of today offers comforts that require energy for their livelihoods. The supply and delivery of energy, therefore, is a matter of general interest to society, because electricity from the world develops. The Brazilian energy system is structured as follows: hydroelectric power, biomass, solar, thermal power and wind power. This study aimed to examine the contribution of wind energy production to economic growth in the Northeast. The Northeast Region consists of nine states that are home to 53 million inhabitants. Currently, there are 144 wind farms account for 78% of the energy produced in the country. With all this potential, the Northeast region were a country, would be among the top ten countries in Latin America, ahead of Ecuador, Cuba, Paraguay and Uruguay. Development work also the causes that led to the current energy crisis in the country were presented and it was noted that wind proposal should be seen as an alternative medium to long term to strengthen the matrix in order to minimize the impacts suffered by a crisis water. It was also highlighted that by not being dependent on finite fossil fuels, this is a clean, sustainable energy that reduces the emission of so-called greenhouse gases, which contribute to the preservation of the environment. The methodology used for the elaboration of this study was to review the literature on the subject, in addition to searches of electronic media and government institutions.Keywords: Wind Energy.
