TORTURE EXTENSIVELY OVER A PERIOD OF DECADES...
"..Antonio Damasio, Hanna Damasio,This is patient B., whom we
studied extensively over a period of ...decades and is now deceased.....We
have samples of Patient B.'s behavior across a wide range of situations,
and in connection to varied individuals and relationships, ... obtained
between 1976 and 2003"

Bodily changes in pain, hunger, fear and rage: An account of recent
researches into the function of emotional excitement. Cannon, Walter 1915
(ONE OF AMERICA'S LEADING physiologists and most respected scientific
statesmen of the 20th century, Walter Bradford Cannon was born on October
19, 1871)
"... in everyday life, we used the experience-sampling method, which
captures emotional experiences in real-time as they unfold in the subject's
natural environment " Antonio R. Damasio

"...Fear conditioning is a procedure based on Pavlovian associative
learning, widely used to study emotional memory (Fendt and Fanselow, 1999;
LeDoux, 2000; Maren, 2001; Fanselow and Poulos, 2005). Mice are exposed to
an electric shock and learn to associate it with a neutral stimulus like
the chamber in which they received the shock (contextual fear conditioning)
or an auditory tone (cued fear conditioning). ...General procedures RFID
transponders (Datamars SA, Bedano, Switzerland) were injected
subcutaneously in the dorso-cervical region under Isoflurane inhalation
anesthesia"http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3230787/

"We define fear induction as the exposure to stimuli capable of triggering
a state of fear. The success of an induction was measured by the presence
of overt behavioral manifestations of fear1, especially signs of avoidance
behavior or withdrawal in response to fear-provoking stimuli.
The second fear-inducing situation attempted to scare SM in a setting
professionally designed for such ,a purpose

To further investigate SM's emotional experiences in everyday life, we used
the experience-sampling method, which captures emotional experiences in
real-time as they unfold in the subject's natural environment,,

To the psychologists, SM came across as a "survivor", as being "resilient"
and even "heroic" in the way that she had dealt with adversity in her life.
Taken together, this evidence illuminates the possibility that because of
her amygdala damage, SM is immune to the devastating effects of
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – an intriguing hypothesis that has
recently found support in war veterans with amygdala lesions

"Different contributions of the human amygdala and ...to decision-making.
Damasio H, Damasio AR, .. .... We used ...electrodermal activity (skin
conductance responses, SCR) as an index of somatic state activation. All
patients, those with amygdala damage...patients were able to generate SCRs
when they received a reward or a punishment ...whereas amygdala patients
failed to do so. In a Pavlovian conditioning experiment the VMF patients
acquired a conditioned SCR to visual stimuli paired with an aversive loud
sound, whereas amygdala patients failed to do so. The results suggest that
amygdala damage is associated with impairment in decision-making and that
the roles played by the amygdala and VMF in decision-making are different."

"A hybrid clinical–research depth electrode for acute anD chronic in
vivo microelectrode recording of human brain neurons...
HANNA M. DAMASIO,...
For several decades, important scientific information has been gained
from in vivo microelectrode recordings of individual human cerebral
cortical neurons in patients with epilepsy..... a new method is described
for obtaining in vivo microelectrode recordings using a hybrid depth
ELECTRODE.
To advance this research, we describe a new hybrid depth electrode
(HDE) that was designed to provide simultaneous clinical depth
electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring and microelectrode research
recordings in both acute (intraoperative) and chronic (epilepsy monitoring
unit) settings.
Over the last several decades, a small group of investigators has applied
acute microelectrode recording methods to the study of normal cerebral
cortex physiology in awake humans."
