CAPÍTULO II 2. Las vocales En el hebreo antiguo no había un sistema de vocales escritas. Las vocales no estaban representadas en la escritura. El idioma era leído y hablado según una tradición oral que era transmitida de generación en generación. Mucho antes de la introducción de los signos que representan las vocales, se hizo necesario que los principales sonidos de las vocales fuesen indicados en la escritura, de modo que las letras !, ", # y $ fueron utilizadas para representar las vocales.
