TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN 29-30 April 2016 SIS Interim Conference Michelangelo's poetry: a reappraisal Organiser and Chair: Dr Ambra Moroncini (University of Sussex) Michelangelo’s original verse, albeit a subject that in Italian studies has always benefitted from peripheral attention, can be regarded as an invaluable document in understanding the personality, spirituality and unique artistic language of one of the geniuses of the Italian Renaissance and at the crossroads between the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation. This panel seeks to investigate the latest scholarship in Michelangelo’s poetry in order to reassess the exegesis of his verse and discuss new readings of selected poems. Speakers: Prof. Antonio Corsaro (Università di Urbino): In margine a una nuova edizione critica delle Rime di Michelangelo

Dr Ida Campeggiani (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa): Dalle varianti al ‘canzoniere’ (e ritorno) Dr Sarah Rolfe Prodan (University of Toronto): Lover’s Eye Meets Pilgrim’s Gaze: Vision and Visuality in Michelangelo’s Rime
