Música popular nas rádios do ABC: memória musical e cultura regional nos anos 1950 e 1960

Abstract: Pop music on the ABC radios: musical memory and regional culture in the 50sand 60s ñ Combining media and memory-related studies may offer newperspectives for understanding culture and its relations with the communicationmedia, both local and from a broader standpoint. In view of the current relationsbetween social memory and communication, this article analyzes the productionof popular music in the Greater S„o Paulo ABC region from the point of view of itsmore traditional songs, highlighting the role of four local radio stations as culturalmediators between traditional musical genres and the local society. The localproduction of traditional musical genres is discussed, based on an analysis of thelives of musicians and composers who lived in the region in those days, as well asof their music, seeking to ascertain how the local cultural transformations maintainor modify this local musical production and to identify the role of the radio stationsin disseminating these musical genres in the region during that period.Keywords: memory; radio; pop music; ABC region
