Nassarius which is unknown to science. This species is herein described as Nassarius codeei n. sp. and is compared with if. micans (A. Adams, 1852) and If. succinctus (A. Adams, 1S52).
Description of the holotype.-
Shell elongate-ovate, height 20.S rffn, width 9.7 mm. Protoconch of about 3
small whorls, last 2 cafinated. Teleoconch with about 6 whorls. Moderately shiny. Suture finely channeled. All teleoconch whorls with a subsutural groove, first 3 teleoconch whorls axially ribbed, other

Shell liver-coloured, subsutural collar off whitg bordered by a darker purplish area, anteriorly fading into the main colour of the shell. Very fain! but uninterrupted darker bands at the periphery and the base, visable at the inside of the aperture. Outer lip, columellar callus and siphonal area off white, inside aperture orange.

DISCUSSION
(NIoz)l; MBlz.
Nassartus cadeei n. sp. was misidentified micans (A. Àdams" lB52). The holotype of this species is figured by Cernohorsky (1984: p1.29 fig. S), and by Kaicher (1983: card 3495). This confusion is understandable, however, when both species are compared side by side, the

comparing the dorsal side of the two species. Ventrally, the relatively longer and naÍroï/er aperture and the expanded lower margrn of the outer lip of N. micans are notable. The axial ribs on the early postnuclearwhorls offf, mieans are crossed by strong spirals. The suture of N micans is finely ledged, but not channeled. Another misidentification of the new species as Nossartus sueeinctas (A. Adams, 1852) results from the similar colour of specimens of both species, although the banding af N suceinaus is more clearly defined (figs S-9). It has more (but less prominent) ribs on the first 3 to 4 post-nuclear whorls, crossed by fine spiral

Variability. The greatest variability is in size and in colour. In the large number of specimens from the Bay of Jakarta, the height of adult specimens varies from about 14 to 21 mm. The colour of most specimens is off white to creamy-yellowish with two or three fain! unintemrpted baads on the body whorl, also visible in the aperture.
