Operar com os conceitos de transversalidade, cruzamento e potenciação em obras científicas, filosóficas e artísticas entre os séculos XVIII e XXI. 2. Desenvolver a capacidade de recurso a uma metodologia que privilegie o sentido dinâmico e adaptativo da investigação no tratamento dos objectos seleccionados e respectivas linguagens filosófica, artística, científica, estética, política e cultural. Esta opção metodológica tem a função de nos ajudar a ler, ao mesmo tempo, o antigo e o contemporâneo (Goethe, Humboldt, Herzog), o que tem forma e é informe (Goethe, Humboldt, Pretor-Pinney), o que fixa por imagem, sabendo-se que essa fixação apenas preserva o provisório (Humboldt, Mäkela). E que o provisório pode durar muitos milhares de anos (grutas de Chauvet – Herzog). 3. Estimular a produção de discurso reflexivo, crítico e estético a partir da relação directa ou diferida com as obras programáticas e suas matrizes, representações, variações e recriações. 4. Incentivar a investigação autónoma, a partilha de conhecimento e o trabalho de campo. 5. Desencadear e promover uma tão sólida quanto possível e justificada relação entre núcleos de pesquisa, correspondente divulgação em contexto de aula, discussão e apuramento de resultados. 4. Learning outcomes of the curricular unit 1. To operate with the concepts of transversality, intersection and empowerment in scientific, st philosophical and artistic works along the 18th and until the 21 century. 2. To develop the capacity of finding a methodology that supports the dynamic and adaptive direction of researching selected objects considered in their artistic, scientific, aesthetic, political and cultural discourses. This methodological choice may help us reading at the same time the ancient and the contemporary (Goethe, Humboldt, Herzog), the form and the formless (Goethe, Humboldt, Pretor-Pinney), the fixed image, the preserved provisional (Humboldt, Mäkelä). We will be able to discover that the provisional can last many thousands of years (caves of Chauvet - Herzog). 3. To stimulate the production of reflexive, critical and aesthetic discourse considering the direct or deferred relationship with the programmatic works, their matrices, representations, variations and recreations. 4. To encourage independent research, knowledge sharing and field work. 5. To initiate and promote a solid and justified relationship between research units, corresponding disclosure in the context of class discussion and achieved results. 5.Conteúdos programáticos

Nuvens, Montanhas, Cavernas, Oceanos Processos de correspondência entre particular e universal através de Ciência e Arte Trilharemos caminhos, a partir dos quais pensaremos por conceitos, funções e sensações no âmbito empírico e seus paradigmas. Confrontar-nos-emos com um vasto número de questões que fundamentam o nosso querer saber sempre mais e melhor e que nos ajudam a encarar o enigma da existência. De onde vimos? Quem somos? Para onde vamos? Quanto tempo ainda tem a nossa espécie? O que nos poderá levar a estabelecer diálogo entre Ciência e Arte senão a vontade de podermos desvendar como cada um destes ramos do conhecimento é cruzável dentro de um quadro multidisciplinar? Ao descentrarmos o foco de atenção da especificidade e funcionamento de cada um destes sistemas e ao criarmos relações colaborantes entre eles, numa perspectiva holística, procuraremos abrir espaço para pesquisa, reflexão e fruição sobre experiências científicas e artísticas de outros, que são desenho e montagem de opções conscientes nestes domínios. A escolha dos nossos artistas, cientistas e pensadores é representativa de uma diversidade inesgotável de hipóteses no contexto da relação do Ser Humano na Natureza e desta com o Universo. 5.Syllabus Clouds, mountains, caves, oceans - Matching processes between particular and universal through Science and Art We will cross paths that shall give access to concepts, functions and sensations at the empirical level and its paradigms. We shall confront ourselves with a wide range of issues that underlie our wonder and questioning about our existence. Where we come from? Who we are? In what direction are we going? For how long will our species resist? What can help us to establish dialogue between Science and Art but the will to discover how each of these branches of knowledge is crossable within a multidisciplinary framework? To decenter our specific focus of attention and operation about each of these systems. To create cooperative relations between them in a holistic perspective shall open a field for research, reflection and enjoyment about scientific and artistic experiences of others. Their scrupulous design and working composition makes us aware of their options in these areas. Our choice of artists, scientists and thinkers is representative of an endless variety of hypotheses in the context of the relationship of the human being as Nature and of this one with the Universe. 6.Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída) Serão realizados dois testes ao longo do semestre. Em alternativa o 2º teste poderá ser substituído por um trabalho, caso o aluno ou a aluna mereça esse privilégio. A aprendizagem presencial requer participação activa regular ao longo do período de aulas. A avaliação oral estará sempre a acontecer. Escrita presencial (Modalidade A) (50%) 2 Testes com consulta, de duração máxima de 2 horas. Escrita presencial (Modalidade B) (50%) 1 Teste e 1 Trabalho individual. Oralidade em presença (30%) Participação espontânea na aula. Participação individual ou em grupo, solicitada e com preparação prévia. Apresentação sumária de projecto para trabalho escrito fora da aula. Participação solicitada no âmbito de toda e qualquer discussão relacionada com a matéria no espaço da aula. Interesse e participação em actividades extra-curriculares (20%) Possibilidade de implementar um espírito de grupo e de criar uma boa relação de cultura e partilha de opinião crítica, a propósito de objectos artísticos disponíveis na comunidade. Os dados sobre avaliação de testes, trabalhos e outros contributos no âmbito desta cadeira, a fornecer aos alunos, serão sempre qualitativos, à excepção da nota final em pauta, no termo do semestre, que será numérica. A opção por uma avaliação nestes moldes pretende abrir espaço para uma sempre necessária margem de tolerância em situações de dúvida.

6. Teaching methodologies (including evaluation) During our semester, the students will write two tests. As an alternative to the second test, there may be the possibility of writing a very small essay, if the student deserves this privilege. Learning in presence requires active and regular participation along the semester. Oral evaluation will always be happening. Writing in presence (Mode A) (50%) Two Tests with consultation and a maximum duration of two hours. Writing in presence (Mode B) (50%) One test and one individual work. Orality in presence (30%) Spontaneous participation in class. Individual or group participation, requested and under preparation in advance. Brief presentation in class of a project proposal for an accepted written work. Regular participation in any discussion related to matters and subjects within the class. Interest and participation in extracurricular activities (20%) Extracurricular activities may foster group spirit and create a good relationship of culture and sharing of critical opinion, considering the purpose of artistic objects available in the community. Data assessment about tests, papers and other contributions concerning our programm, to be provided to the students, will always be qualitative, with the exception of the result on the official schedule at the end of the semester, which will be numerical. 8.Tempo de atendimento de alunos / Office hours O horário de atendimento dos alunos, com marcação prévia, será indicado quando for conhecido o horário da Professora. O acompanhamento dos alunos será em constância, com grande disponibilidade e completa devoção. Students’ attending timetable, always set by appointment, will be indicated as soon as the Professor’s timetable is known. The monitoring process of the students will be constant, with great availability and complete devotion. 9. Requisitos (caso existam) / Requirements (if foreseen) A cadeira está concebida para alunos com diferentes percursos, formações e interesses, sendo, no entanto, aconselhada preferencialmente a alunos no 3º ano do seu percurso académico. A cadeira será leccionada em português. Pede-se sala equipada com meios audiovisuais. The curricular unit is conceived for students with different backgrounds and interests and should preferably be attended by those who are registered in their third academic year. The course will be taught in Portuguese. Classroom with equipped audiovisual media is needed.
