O modelo de análise Palavra & Paradigma na Institutio de Prisciano: uma resposta à crítica de Taylor (2007)

This paper brings up the models of grammatical analysis Item and Arrangement (IA), Item and Process (IP) and Word and Paradigm (WP), as they were proposed by Hockett (1954), in order to discuss the pattern of ancient grammars‟ descriptive analysis. Besides providing information on these models, it also shows the morphological description made by Priscian in his Institutio de nomine et pronomine et verbo, by taking it as an example of the regulae grammars. In line with Matthews (1974) e Robins (1983; 1993), it claims that the analysis presented at the Institutio also follows the WP model, in the same as it is described by Matthews (1974). Due to this fact, this paper questions a criticism expressed by Taylor (2007) addressed to Priscian‟s work, believing it is not methodologically consistent to demand any morpheme concept from a WP analysis.
