Research Goals
To better understand trends in student use of current transfer pathways across Ontario PSE.
To see how commuting distances affect rates of transfer-student use.
to inform a Decision-making tool for Ontario PSE aimed at supporting responsive pathway development.

9,000 pathways link colleges
to universities.
Universities' medians:
6 generic
and 134 specific.
Universities favour
one type:
generic (9),
specific (8),
both (2), or
neither (1).

5,000 transfer
students and
9,000 pathways.
The median ratio
is 1.3 transfer

More pathways do not
lead to more transfer
students, except for blanket generic agreements.

2015 ONCAT Pathways Dataset
Comprehensive dataset outlining all articulation agreements of Ontario PSE institutions as of August 2015. Bear in mind that the numbers you see here, may not represent your institutions most up to date pathway articulation. We examined C-U approved agreements in our counts.
2013 National Graduate Survey
Obtained from StatsCan, this survey captures links between PSE sector and the labour market
Captures mobility of credential holders by field of study; for our purposes, we looked at college credential holders who went on to pursue a university credential and their field of study.
Data used reflects Ontario.
Google Maps (commuting parameters between institutions)
used to examine commuting distances between institutions against student transfer rates.
Distances in km, time in hrs.
Used only the main campuses; satellite campuses not considered.
based on previous work by Marc Frennette on distance education suggested to us commutable institutions for students were approximately 80 km.
2013/2014 Graduate Satisfaction Survey
Obtained secondary analysis data from our Seneca Colleagues at the Centre for Research in Student Mobility
The GSS survey details graduates' satisfaction with college education, and future goals of employment and further education.
Data notes transfer mobility of college grads into university

From this sources we were able to create data products that were used in our analysis. We compiled for each university as receiving institutions, institutional profiles summarizing all of the articulated transfer agreements.

From the GSS survey, we were able to see C-U transfer student numbers by institution.

From the NGS survey, we were able to see student mobility by the the top Fields of Study transfer trends taken by students in the C-U transfer sector.

From the google maps parameters, we were able to compare available pathways, with how close sending and receiving institutions were.
