Prayer of the Service Teacher

Help me to be a fine teacher, to keep peace in the classroom,
peace between my students and myself, to be kind and gentle
to each and every one of my students.
Help me to be merciful to my students, to balance mercy and
discipline in the right measure for each student, to give genuine praise a
s much as possible, to give constructive criticism in a manner
that is palatable to my students.
Help me remain conscientious enough to keep my lessons
always interesting, to recognize what motivates each of my students,
to accept my student's limitations and not hold it
against them.
Help me not to judge my students too harshly, to be fair to all,
to be a good role model, but most of all Lord, help me to show
Your love to all of my students. Amen.

My Reflection/My Insights
My Reflection/My Insights
Am I Really Prepared to Teach? This is a question I always ask my self, and I arrived at one definite answer, YES I am! I am drawn up towards this profession and I intend to make this come true. I've been struggling hard to be a teacher and I know teaching isn't an easy job. It is the common litany that teaching is the noblest profession and it is a very delicate job for you are the one in charge of the children's future. For me, I really can't say that I am an effective teacher because I don't have much experience but I am willing to learn and I'm open to all possible learning I encounter along the way. It's been my dream and I know I can be a teacher in the future through my hard work and perseverance and most of all, my faith in God.

I fully realized that I need to read more on the
development stage of:
The learners especially on formal operational because they gain the ability to think in an abstract manner, the ability to combine and classify items in a more sophisticated way, and the capacity for higher-order reasoning. The formal operational thinker has the ability to consider many different solutions to a problem before acting. This greatly increases efficiency, because the individual can avoid potentially unsuccessful attempts at solving a problem.

On the very first day, I was a little bit scared and surprised because my cooperating teacher that day was very enraged because of the pupils. I thought she was that kind of a terror teacher I saw in movies. Later on that day, she told me not to be scared of her because it is the way she is, the real her. I was relief and I felt enlightened. During that day, I didn't observe much of her because she is very busy on the MTAP quiz. Her pupils were one of the finalists so, she can't really be there for her class that is why, like wonder woman to the rescue, I was the one who take over the class since she was not around. That day, I realized how hard it is to be a teacher. You go on there and here, entertain questions now and then. Teaching isn't really an easy job but then I was happy and felt more challenge for I know, it was the beginning of many challenges. I guess there isn't a better reason for me to be scared of. On my first dealing with the learners, I observed that…
Student diversity is apparent. This is one of the challenges in the teaching profession; different learning styles, different levels of abilities, some are average but multitude are fast learners, different behaviors, different beliefs, different set of moral and ethical standards, and whatsoever differences. The teacher should consider all these differences. You must be flexible and creative enough so that you can address this kind of dilemma in order to satisfy the wants and needs of every learner. One thing more that I observed is that, they are not as lively as how they perform in other subjects. I understood because it is a Mathematics subject, but then don't allow this boredom occupies your students' mind. It's the teacher's great responsibility to make his/her class lively and interactive.

My Reflections/My Insights
My Reflections/My Insights

This day, I fully realized that…

I still have to overcome my fears…
Because these hinder me to perform my highest potential. I still have worries that sometimes make me feel small. My self-confidence and self-esteem weakened. Especially when my cooperating teacher is observing me, I have this kind of feeling of stress. "We should overcome all our fears and this in turn would make us stronger and more confident. As soon as we overcome our fears, we can face any unexpected challenges that may rise along our ways in teaching".

My Reflections/My Insights

After analyzing the school's vision and mission and goals of Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School..

I realized that…
There is a great impact of quality education in the development of every student and this will become possible through the help of effective teachers who will shape students' mind and transform students' deviant behavior, to make students the best individual and contributor of sustainable development of the country. I realized also that as a teacher, you should also help students to have morally upright values because this contributes to the advancement of every learner.

So I need to…
Struggle more so that I can contribute to the achievement of the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMGO) of my cooperating school and to the maintainable development of the country.I need also to practice, collaborate, and realize trending ideas and notions about teaching so that I will embody the quality of an effective teacher.

My Analysis

Establishing classroom routines is important because…
Establishing classroom routines is beneficial for both the learners and the teacher. These routines make the expectations of the class clear, so the pupils know what is expected of them and the teacher is not forced to remind the pupils repeatedly of those expectations. Clear expectations result in better classroom management smoother, transitions between activities and a more positive classroom environment. When setting the expectations and guidelines, the most important thing is to be consistent. These rules are to be applied equally to everyone, lest students feel that there is favoritism. Pupils can also be included in setting these guidelines, so they can feel that their input in the classroom is valued. Routines also help to simplify a complex environment and inform students exactly what they expect, what is expected of them and what acceptable behavior is.

My Reflection/My Insights

If I already have my own class in the future, I want to employ…
A social constructivist view of classroom. This view of classroom acknowledges the uniqueness and complexity of the learners, but actually encourages, utilizes and rewards it as an integral part of the learning process. One thing more is that it makes learning more attractive. Since it is more student-centered, students might find themselves more involved in the learning situation.

So that in the long run…
Learners with different skills and backgrounds will collaborate in tasks and discussions to arrive at a shared understanding of the truth in a specific field. One thing more is that students can adapt themselves into the existing demand of the society.

Class, what was our lesson yesterday?
Kyla, can you tell the class about what we've learned yesterday?

Yes, that's right!

Now, can you tell us what does the sun gives off?
Yes, John Andrei?

Is Andrei right? Does the sun gives off heat and light?

You're right! Based on our activity yesterday, what are the evidences that the sun gives off heat and light? Yes Ashley?

Very good! How about the evidence that the sun gives off light? Yes, Andrew?

Very good!

Motivation

Class, I have here a picture, try to look at it and observe. What do the people in the picture doing? Yes, Vannika?

You're right Vannika! Do you also dry fishes like the man in the picture?

Alright. Another observation about the picture presented? Yes, Levi?

You're right. Do you also hang your clothes outside you're houses or at the backyard?

Why do you think they hang the clothes outside, they dry fishes outside and even dry some palay? What makes these things dry?

Oh well, very good Kyla!

Sun, really helps human being. It lessens the work of the people. It gives vitamins, right?

Presentation

Our lesson for this morning is all about "The Good Effects of Sunlight".

Strengths
The Lesson Plan is organized.
It is student-centered
Has the element of SMART

After writing my first lesson plan, I realized that it should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound or SMART. One thing more, into this age of globalization where everything steps up into a higher level, we should adapt into these changes, we should make our lesson plan student-centered so that we can engage our learners more in the teaching-learning process. The more they are involved, the greater the probability of higher learning and the longer it will retain.I realized also that making lesson plan is important because this serves as a guide towards targeting your goals. It is the roadmap intended for achieving lesson's objectives.I realized also that:With careful planning, you are assured of an effective procedure and a complete coverage of the subject that you aim to teach.A good and reliable plan can definitely enhance your self-confidence together with relax and authoritative poise.Your plan can be submitted to your cooperating teacher for comments and suggestions, thus adding to your learning experience.Experience gained from your daily lesson planning task conserve us well-earned qualification for future classroom activities.

Preparation
Good morning class!

So class, who wants to volunteer to lead a prayer?

Okay, class arranges your chairs and pick up all the pieces of papers you can see.

Anyway, is there any absent?

Motivation
(Optical illusions)

The teacher will going to present optical illusion photos with regards to the topic to be discussed.

Among the optical illusions that I presented to you, what is the common shapes that represent them? Yes Joanna?

That's right! It's the circle!

Not only on optical illusions, but circle have so many applications in life.

For example, the wheels of a bicycle can represent circle.

How about you class? Can you name other things that may represent a circle? Yes Princess?

Circles could also be found in music, such as these percussion instruments.

In sports, basketball ring is a good representation of a circle.

As you can see on the photo, the five rings on the logo of the Olympics represent a circle.

Lesson proper
Based on those representations, how are you going to define what is a circle? Anyone? Yes Sheila?

By using circular objects we can create a circle by following its pattern, or through using a compass, isn't it class?

Circle consists of all points equidistant from a fixed point inside it, that fixed point we are referring is what we call Center.

Class, how many center do you think a circle have? Yes Aliah?

That's right Aliah!

Next, we have the circumference.

Based on the figure, how are you going to define a circumference? Anyone? Yes Don-Don?

Exactly! Very good Don-Don, so the total distance that composes all points in the circle is the circumference.

So far, is there any question?

There is what we call regions of a circle. Look at the figure.

The circle divides a plane into three parts, the circle itself, the interior of a circle, and the exterior of a circle.

The circle together with its circumference is called the circular region.

Do you have any question class?

Next, we have the radius. In the figure, the connection between the center and point m is called the radius.

Based from that illustration, how are you going to define a radius? Yes Shaina?

The plural of radius is "radii". All radii inside the circle are equal in length.

If a circle is composes of infinite numbers of points, which means how many radii can be drawn in a circle? Yes Jerico?

Precisely! Very good Jerico!

Another, we have the Diameter. Who wants to read the definition? Yes Raven?

On a circle, the sum of the length of two radii is equal to the length of the diameter. Do you agree class?

Okay, now will you examine this figure?

On the figure, what do you call the segment that joins point A and B?

That's right it's the chord!

Will you read the definition of chord Keysie?

Diameter of a circle is the longest chord. And the same with the radius and diameter infinite numbers chord can be drawn in a circle.

Next, we have the arc. Okay, will you read the definition of an arc Don-Don?

Thank you Don-Don! On naming an arc, you have to indicate three points on a circle, in which the two points are the end pints of the arc. On the figure KXL is the minor arc.

An arc divides a circle into two parts: the smaller arc is the minor arc and the larger arc is the major arc.

A rainbow is an example of an arc.

Another form of arc is the semicircle. So what is a semicircle? Will you read the definition Joan?

Our figure here shows the semicircle DSE and DRE.

The two parts of the circle divides by a diameter is called the semicircular region.
However if we pertains to segments of a circle, it is when a chord divides the circle into two parts, each of which is called a segment of a circle.

The part of the circular region enclosed by a minor arc and a chord is the minor segment.

Any question class?

Okay if that's so, how will you then define what a major segment is? Yes Sheila?

Very good Sheila! And the major segment of contains the center of the circle.

Is any clarification?

Generalization
Okay class! So let us have a recap of the terms we have tackled. Again, what are those? Will you give one?

Very good class! Now I want you to divide the class into six groups. Group 1 will be the first half of the first column, group 2 is the first half of the second column and so on.

(each group will be having one illustration paper for the activity)

Activity:
Instruction:
Together with your group mates illustrate the following statement about circle and its parts.

Chord EC which divides the circle into two equal parts is parallel to chord BO.
Two chords intersecting perpendicularly at its midpoint divide the circle into four equal parts.
Arc CED is the minor arc of the circle, forming a whole circle with arc CPD.

Valuing
Relating circle into real life, we are always uttering about our life like a wheel, that sometimes we are at the top and we can do everything, but at some moments we are down like hopeless.

But remember life is a battle that we have to be prepared with. Hoping for the best is good, but preparing for the worst is better, and so we can direct our own wheel of life into a better future.

Evaluation
Circle Crossword

Across:
4. The line segment that joins any two points on the circle and passes through its center.
5. A closed curve in a plane.
6. All points on the circle are Equidistant from this point.
7. A line segment that joins any two points on a circle.

Down
1. The distance between any two
points on the circumference of the
circle.
2. The distance around the circle.

3. The distance from the center of the
circle to a point on the circle.

Assignment

For your assignment, define and illustrate the central angle of a circle on your notes.

Good morning ma'am!

(the students will answer accordingly)

There is a circle in each of the optical illusion ma'am!

A coin ma'am!

(students will raise their hands to give their own representation, and the teacher will only choose some to recite)

Circle is a close curve plane figure.

Yes ma'am!

There is only one ma'am!

Ma'am it is the distance around the circle.

None ma'am!

None ma'am!

Radius is a segment that joins any point on the circle to its center.

It is also infinite ma'am.

Diameter is a line segment that joins any two points on the circle and passes through its center.

Yes ma'am!

A chord ma'am!

Chord is a segment that joints any two points on the circle.

Instructional materials allow the instructor to engage learners by supporting concepts through the use of multimedia, including sound clips, video, images, hands-on experience and interactive games. Materials offer learners the opportunity to practice concepts and develop a product that demonstrates their level of understanding. Consequently, those products are then used to evaluate learners' knowledge. Instructional materials allow the instructor to support learners with varying levels of ability and foundational skills by providing additional support.I realized also that Instructional materials are highly important for teaching, especially for inexperienced teachers. Teachers rely on instructional materials in every aspect of teaching. They need materials for background information on the subject they are teaching. Young teachers usually have not built up their expertise whenever they enter into the field. Teachers often use instructional materials for lesson planning. These materials are also needed by teachers to assess the knowledge of their students. Teachers often assess students by assigning tasks, creating projects, and administering exams. Instructional materials are essential for all of these activities.

I considered the following things when I prepared my first assessment tool.
Objectives – This is the first thing that you need to do in constructing your assessment tool if it is the assessment that you're going to do is somewhat related to the objectives that you have set in the beginning. Wherein, this will be your guide in determining if the objectives that you have set were achieved by the learners. Validity – the degree to which it measures what it is intended to measure.
Reliability – the degree to which an assessment tool measures what it measures at the same condition and gives the same result.Level of difficulty – an assessment should not only focus in difficult items but rather it should have easy, moderate, and difficult items so that students' brain will be thrilled. Types of Test – an assessment tools should be suited to the level of learners. Wherein, you can identify what types of test you are going to prepare in order that the students can prepare and at the same time it will have a positive result.

My Analysis
My Analysis
Observing the varied bulletin boards in my cooperating school, I feel that the following areas can still be improved…
The bulletin Board should adapt into the existing demand of the world. All the information to be pasted should be informative and at the same time comprehensive.

So that…
We can build good and healthy information propagation. Bulletin boards are one of the ways on how to relay information. That's why the information should all be updated in order to inform the readers on what is presently happening on the environment. So bulletin boards also promote self-awareness.

My Reflections/My Insights
My Reflections/My Insights

As a student teacher, I need to learn how to structure bulletin board so that…
In the near future, I already have gained a collection of knowledge on how to design and structure a bulletin board. One thing more is that having knowledge in making bulletin boards can also be of great help when you have now your own class because aside from your major, you can also impart knowledge on other areas especially on art.

What lesson did I learn when structuring/designing my bulletin boards?
Bulletin boards created around a universal concept can help students see the connections that exist between and across various disciplines. The prompts of depth and complexity can be integrated into the construction of a bulletin board to further focus students' study of the core content materials. Bulletin boards can also serve as the catalyst to independent study projects based on students' interest, choice, and aptitude.

GENERAL REFLECTION AFTER MY DEMONSTRATION.
What went well in my lesson? Why?-Based on the comments of our panelist upon their observation on my demonstration teaching, they said that I carried out effectively my lesson; there is congruence between the lesson plan and the actual teaching. What went wrong in my lesson? Why?-Be time-conscious, give attention to those students who did not listen attentively and participate actively, some daily routines are missed. What did my students learn?-The concept of Actual activity when I bought them out for observation of the sun and its relation to real-life.What was learned about planning?-Planning ahead of time is the most appropriate action of teacher to have a wonderful presentation of lesson. Being prepared is one good feature of planning carefully. What was learned about teaching?-Teaching is a labor of dedicated service, selfless commitment, and serious calling for the noble and proud teacher. What improvements will I make to be more effective in my class?-Sustain enthusiasm and dynamism throughout the whole cycle of the teaching-learning process.
