Self-Assessment Summary

The Strengths Finder 2.0 assessment describes me very well and gives me insight into some of my struggles, my drive, and how God has fastened me together considering what trials I face and work he has given me. I will reflect briefly on each of my top five strengths according to the assessment and how God has used that strength in me for His purposes.
Achiever: Yes, I have a drive that could bulldoze a mighty parking building to the ground! I cannot stand for an unfinished job. I need results and NOW! There are many shadows that come with this strength, but God has used it in my life for good. I suffer from a severe case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, among many other diagnoses; therefore, for what God allowed, he also provided. Because this strength, I can not lay around and feel sorry for myself for too long nor can I sit and rest, unless it is absolutely necessary. A psychologist once told me that I survive by my "strong mind."
Responsibility: God has given me a strong sense of responsibility. With this, I have given my brothers and some cousins much needed mothering and mentoring while as children and as adults, for my mother was abusive and neglected us. Moreover, since I also deal with depression and suicidal thoughts, the sense of responsibility does not allow me to give up on my life. It also pushes my drive to be a Godly mother to my children and to keep trying, even after I feel as though I did as my mother had done to me. I feel a strong responsibility to serve God as well as he gives me the strength to do so and often worry most about letting him and his reputation down.
Restorative: As I mentioned above, my mother was abusive and neglected me. Because God has given me this restorative strength, I was not able to forgive my mother, but develop a new relationship. I am thankful for this. I can see the good in those who hurt me and have compassion, wanting to restore them not only to me, but to and by Christ. Jesus is the ultimate and virtually only way to complete restoration. On a different thought, it is also difficult for me to sit and rest because I see the potential in everything and everyone around me! I need to control this carefully, for I can really pick a person or a project apart.
Learner: I love to learn and I love being a student. I am a student of life and enjoy the company of elderly people who have much wisdom to share. I am also quick to learn from my mistakes and to move on towards changing bad habits and not repeating poor decisions. This has been important in my life, for there have been many dangerous situations I've been in that, if repeated, could have been fatal for me. God has given me a love for wisdom to help guide me and protect me. I have gathered that wisdom from his word and a variety of his people along the way. This has been especially important because of the lack of Christian guidance I had as a child and young adult.
Belief: A strong belief theme in my life has meant that I won't give in when the values I hold as important are being threatened. Basically, I am very quiet and passive. Yet, God wont let me slide away when classmates agree that it's a good idea to euthanize the developmentally disabled, or when my grandmother misquotes the bible to manipulate family members. I feel an unavoidable push to speak up and I have no choice but to do it! However, sometimes, belief can also make it more difficult to forgive or love certain people, especially when they hurt others.
I am so thankful to the Lord for the strengths he built in me, for they have been like life preservers throughout my life. It is incredible to be able to realize them and point them out specifically, understanding the components and shadows of each strength. The Strength Finder 2.0 assessment is a valuable tool for life.
