Special ICCST/6 issue of composite structures
This Special Issue is dedicated to the memory of Professor Ian H. Marshall who dedicated his professional life to advancing composite materials and structures. He will be fondly remembered by the entire composites community as a great scientist and administrator, a kind man and as a pioneer in establishing a very successful series of composite conferences and a prestigious composite journal. The present special issue of Composite Structures contains 11 of the papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Composites Science and Technology (ICCST/6) held on 22–24 January 2007 in Durban, South Africa. The conference was the sixth in the series with the previous conferences taking place in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005. ICCST conferences aim at promoting exchange of information on advances in the development, technology and application of composite and smart materials. ICCST/7 was no exception with delegates representing more than 30 countries joining together to discuss their research and establish friendships across the globe. As the papers published in this issue and presented at the conference indicate, substantial progress has been achieved in the development of composite technologies involving their design, optimization and manufacturing since the first ICCST took place more than 10 years ago. The papers contained herein were selected for publication on the basis of their quality and their archival value and they cover a wide range of topics and provide an up-to-date view of the developments taking place in the composites field. The editors would like to thank the authors and reviewers for their contributions and constructive criticisms. Late Professor Ian H.
