Special Issue: 2012 Sanibel Symposium

The 2012 Sanibel Symposium, organized by the faculty, staff, and students of the Quantum Theory Project of the University of Florida, was held from February 19 to 24 at the King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort, St. Simons Island, Georgia. This venue provides excellent facilities and an old time ambiance to this annual meeting on theory and computations in chemistry, physics, and biology. This was the 52nd meeting in this series with about 160 participants gathering for 6 days of plenary lectures, poster presentations, and informal discussions. The topics covered included Optical Properties and Spectra of Materials, Quan-

tum Transport and Coherence, Electronic Structure Theory, Quantum Mechanical Calculations on Large Systems, Interface of Wavefunctions and DFT Methods, Free Energy Calculations in Biology, and Reactive Empirical Potentials. The program consisted of 17 plenary and 6 poster sessions. These proceedings present papers from most of these sessions. All contributions have been subject to the normal refereeing procedures of the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry. The organizers acknowledge the following sponsors for their support of the symposium: Dell Inc., Intel Corporation, and University of Florida

Special thanks go to the staff of the Quantum Theory Project for handling the numerous administrative, clerical, and practical details involved in organizing an international scientific meeting.
