Special Issue: Morris Goodman Memorial
We proudly present a special issue dedicated to the memory of Morris Goodman, Ph.D. (1925–2010). Professor Goodman was the founding editor of Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, and he served in this position for nearly 20 years. This special issue is a collection of research and review articles, many of which were the result of a memorial symposium held in honor of Morris Goodman at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI, USA) on 03 October 2011. Many of Morris’s friends, colleagues and family attended this event and all were given the opportunity to reflect on his life. The invited participants in the special issue were chosen because their research reflects many of the areas of scientific inquiry that served as inspiration for Professor Goodman’s research. The thirteen articles published as part of this issue range from studies of molecular rates of evolution, molecular phylogenetics, gene family evolution, and novel model organisms and DNA sequencing techniques. These areas remain of great interest to this journal, and we look forward to continued efforts that bring us nearer to achieving Charles Darwin’s and Morris Goodman’s dream of accurately depicting the Tree of Life in its entirety.
