Great buildings tell a meaningful story of a place or a country. It is considered an interesting artifacts’ that describe one’s culture. Usually, icons were used as an ornament of a building and tell a story about the organization who were housed inside. At present, a lot of structural engineers and architects design a building with innovative design that makes it an icon or a one of a kind structure. In that sense they can be beautiful and interesting border spaces which internally and externally engage people. The Folk Arts Theater, which was designed by Arch. Leandro V. Locsin whom was commissioned by the Former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Romualdez Marcos is an Icon already. Being built in the 1970s with massive structures and modern technology, I may say that it was ahead of its time, it was iconic. In lieu to this, the paper will assess the approach of the architect on the structural design and components of the Folk Arts Theater as well as the techniques used being a massive architecture inspired by Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus period. Also, the paper will analyze and discuss how a structural design may become iconic.
