THE CONCEPT COMPOSITE FLOORING AND STEEL STRUCTURE The basic building materials used in this structural system comprises of RCC Foundation withstanding the pre fabricated box section columns held together by Steel Girders which span across the columns and on top of that there is Composite Slab. The composite slab has a metal profiled sheet which is laid above the girders, then there are shear connectors which compliment in binding the concrete filling and the metal structure.

CONTEXT

STRUCTURAL DESIGN

Structural Grid Long Span (Ly) : 40.1m Short span (Lx) : 16 m The slabs are two way, of two sizes. 5.9m x 4.9m and 5.9m x 6.2m Aerated Concrete Blocks have been majorly used as infill materials to reduce the dead load as much as possible.

03

Structural Grid Total of 32 columns, all box sections. Mid Columns - 400mm x 400mm End Columns - 400mm x 250mm. The Column box sections are prefabricated in house by Richa Industries.

THEORY OF STRUCTURES

Each box section is made of 4 steel plates butt welded and are provided with stiffeners at regular intervals for vertical stability. The Columns are then cladded with Gypsum boards which gives it an approximate of 2 hour fire rating.

A SECTION 1

This is a typical section showing the composite slab’s setup in the structure. The schematic detail (A) of this section further shows the reinforcement laid above the profiled metal sheet. The reinforcement bars used in this case is 8 mm Dia Bar placed at 200 mm C/C.

DETAIL AT C

This is a section through the building showing the column-beam intersection setup in the structure. The working detail (B) of this section further shows the RCC Pedestal on which the entire column carrying load till the 5th floor is transferring to the Pedestal and finally to the ground. 750mm long bolts have been used to fix the column with the RCC Pedestal. Detail (C) Shows the connection of Steel Girders to the Column through angles which are bolted and welded with each other.

THEORY OF STRUCTURES

STRUCTURAL DETAILS

These are the column beam intersections. There are two types of Joints in which the beams are joined either at the middle of the column or at the end depending on the size of the column. The latter one is the rectangular column.

SERVICES

The Steel girders have holes in them which lets the Fire Fighting Water Pipes to pass through it. The Ducting is anyway taken below the beams. In this picture it is evident that one of the beam is covered with Gypsum board for fire safety. The Sprinkler pipes also run through the gaps between the profile sheets.

CURTAIN WALLS

This image shows the fixing of the curtain wall with the structure.

COLUMN – BEAM INTERSECTION

These images show the intersection between the beams and Columns. They are joined with angles that are bolted with each other and are welded. The Holes that are provided for the fire water pipes, stiffeners are welded on all sides of the holes to balance the end moments and shear forces.

BRACING TYPES

The structure exhibits two types of bracing, what the designer has identified as vertical(left) and horizontal(right) bracings.

INFILL The infill material is Aerated Concrete block which has significantly lesser density than that of traditional brick, there having a very prominent reduction in the total dead load of the structure. It is good in fire proofing and has a good insulation against heat.
