Kurzfassung: Durch die Revision der Famjljen Pseudobigaleaidae HOARE, MArES & Y ANCEY. 2002 und Hippocardi idae POJETA & RUNNEGAR, 1976 entstand d ie Notwendigkeit, eine neue Überfamil ie einzuführen, die die beiden be-

stehenden Familien vereint und sie gegen Vertreter der Fam ilien Conocardiidae und Bransoniidae innerhalb der Ordnung Conocardiida abgrenzt. Die Autapomorphie der neuen Überfamilie Hippocardioidea POJETA & RUNNEOAR, 1976 Ln. superfam.] - d ie gleicha11ige Ausbildung mindestens einer Schleppe - wird als taxonomisch so hochrang ig bewerte t. dass eine gemeinsame Abstammung der ungefahr zeitgleich auftretenden Taxa der Familien Hippocardiidae und Pseudobigaleaidae e inerseit s und der Familie Bransoniidae sensu POJETA & RUNNEGAR andererseits ausgeschlossen w ird. Die Familie Hippocardi idae w ird in sechs Unterfamilien, Hippocardiinae POJETA & R UNNEGAR. Babinicardiinae n. subfam .. Barrandeicardiinae n. subfam. , Bohemicardiinae n. s ubfam., Gotieardiinae n . subfam. und H assiaeardiinac n . subfam., unterteilt. Auf Artebcne werden 13 Taxa den Gattungen Babinicardia n. gen .. Barrandeicardia n . gen ., 80hemicardia n. gen ., Filicardia n. gen,. Globocardia n. gen., Goticardia n. gen ., Poil/ja n. gen. und Hassiacardia n. gen. zugew iesen . Das Taxon Goticardia k(wffmllllllii n. gen. n. sp . w ird neu eingeführt , während die primäre Ho monymie von "Collocardium" reticulCllum BAßIN, 1966 erhalten bleibt, da die Art bislang keine r der bestehenden Gattungen zugewiesen werden kann , aber als der Familie Hippoc:ardiidae zugehörig betrachtet w ird. Die Famil ie Hippocardiidae hat nun eine revidierte strati grafische Re ichweite vom Mittel-S ilur (Wen lockium) bis ins M iss issippium; Vertreter der neuen Überfamilie Hippocardioidea kommen vom Ordov izium bi s zum Pennsy lvanium vor .. The autajXlmorphy of this new superfamily Hippocardioidea POJETA & RUNNEGAR, 1976 supcrfam .] - the more or less unifonn development of at least one hood - is considered taxonomically as so imjXlrtant that we exclude a common a ncestry of the almost contemjXlraneously occurring taxa of the Hippocardiidac, Pseudobigaleaidae on the onc hand a nd the Bransoniidac sensu PoJETA & RUNNEGAR on the other. T he family Hippocardi idac is divided into six taxa on subfamily rank, the Hippocardiinae POJETA & RUr..'NEQAR , Babin icardi inae n. subfam., Barrandeicardiinae n . subfam. , Bohemicardi inae n. subfam .. Golicardiinae n. subfam. and Hassiacardii nae n. subfam. At the species level , 13 taxa a re assigned to the genera Babinicardia n . gen., Barrandeicardia n. gen., Bohemicardia n. gen., Filicardia n. gen,. Globocardi{/ n. gen., Goticardia n . gen., Pohlia n. gen. and Hassiacardia n. gen. Additionall y. the speeies Goticardia kauffmannii n. gen. n. sp. is imroduced , whereas the primary homonymy of ,.Conocardium" reticlIlatum BABlN , 1966 is retained, beeause this taxon remained inassignable to any of the ex isting genera, but is considered as a member of the Hippocardiidae. The revised fam ily Hippocard iidae oceurred strat igraphically fro m the Middle Silurian (Wcn lockian) until Mississippian time; members ofthc new superfamily Hippocardioidea are known from the Ordovician until the Pen nsylvan ian.
