Towards a Comprehensive Distributed Systems Management

This paper describes a hybrid approach towards distributed systems management. The rule-based software development environment Marvel is combined with conventional management tools and a new adaptive resource management approach. This approach improves distributed system management in at least two aspects: Formalized managementpolicies are automatically enforced and standard management tasks can be delegated to the system.  The encapsulation feature of Marvel allows an easy integration of separatemanagement tools under a common policy. The description of a resource management application illustrates our approach.
